ALL INDIA MCA COMMMON ENTRANCE TEST(AIMCET)

Students planning to pursue the Masters in Computer Application (MCA) course will no longer have to go through the ordeal of appearing for separate exams for each institute. From 2004-2005, students competing for the all-India seats in government-approved MCA institutes across the country have to take a mandatory joint entrance exam CALLED AIMCET. They are offered seats on the basis of merit according to the score secured in this exam.

The first common entrance test for MCA (AIMCET) was held on June 6, 2004, in 98 cities across the country. However, there are separate exams for seats reserved for state students. State-level institutes will also be free to conduct their own test for these seats. Those institutes, which may not want to conduct their own test, will be allowed to admit students on the basis of merit determined by AIMCET.

The AIMCET was conducted by IIT Roorkee, which has experience in conducting such exams as it is the only IIT that offers a course in MCA.
